November post 1

Today November, 7th , 2013 was a special day because it was my mentor , Paul Munoz's, birthday! Before we celebrated we had a chance to talk about what we will do with the Honda Civic. He bought new tinting and is planning to apply it soon. What is more exciting is the fact that the new carpet is on the way. He also fused a  good amount of wires for the dash, I watched how he did it. The cake you see above was made by my sister, it was purposely made to look ugly. It was funny to see that we actually treated it like any other cake you would buy at the store. It also didn't taste bad.

By far the most interesting thing I have done , our car has gotten its first coat of paint last week. It is a lot of work to sand down the old paint but well worth the reward. The car to your left was how it looked before the primer, and the car to the right is after the primer has been applied. Although it looks very smooth it is actually still rough. The next  step is to sand it down again until it is completely smooth. By the 3rd coat there should no imperfections at all, because the imperfections will be magnified when the fresh paint of coat is added. As for the new engine, we have not gotten our hands on, but hopefully will soon!

4. My mentore i paul munoz, i work with him at his house or were ever he needs me to be. And what we are focusing on is customizing(modifying)  his honda civic. 

Blog 7 Independent component 1 approval

1. What I plan to do for my 30 hours is continue to work with my mentor, there is still much to do with his car, and we have only scratched the surface.

2. I will upload pictures with captions in order to track what we have been working on. For instance we need to remove the engine and I will show a variety of pictures ,with details, describing the steps we had to do in order to accomplish the task.

3. In my opinion hands on training is the best way in order to perfect my knowledge of a vehicle. I find it interesting to read in my research, but when I look at it, I fell as I truly understand what i have been reading.

The good news is that we finished mounting on the cars engine. The bad news is we need to take it out. The threading's (swirls that enable bolts to be fastened) that keep the top and bottom half of the engine block together are completely worn out. Now that we found a new engine to replace the old we have the long task of taking this one out and installing the new one. Although it may be a lot of work its not a total lost. My mentor has came up on a better engine and we will soon be working on installing it once we get it. I am looking forward to it because while we take the old engine out I am going to have a chance to see what a transmission looks like ,which in my opinion, is the most complex part of a vehicle.

1. What college did you go to in order to study to be a Auto Mechanic, and why did that school interest you ?

2. Was there a specific reason you choose this major?

3. What type of student were you in high school, grade wise ?

4. How long did it take you study for this major ?

5. When you graduated was it easy to find a job ?

6. If you could go back and do something over at any point in your studies what would that have been ?

Blog 5 project reflection and working EQ

1. So far I have been very interested in finding out exactly how a vehicle works. It has also been a great experience to actually work on one too. I could easily see this as a hobby of mine and would love to work on a car on my own some day, a challenging one, a classic car.

2. One source would be "How a turbo charged engine works" this article explained in great detail how a regular car's engines works compared to a "turbo charged". It also explained how the exhaust can slow down a cars engine, which I did not know. The piston actually has to have enough force to drive the exhaust out the tai pipe.

3. What has worked for me so far is the ability to comprehend the mechanics of a vehicle. Its not difficult to make sense on what is happening under the hood as you drive.

4. What has not worked is my plan of getting my own, broke down, car that I was supposed to rebuild with minor help with my mentor. Modifying and restoring a car takes time, and money, two things I just don't have enough of.

• For my mentor ship I am still planning to learn as much as can to fully understand the mechanics behind a vehicle. I think the hands on work is much more entertaining and easier to understand when looking at a part that your working on. This month me and my mentor are planning to strip the old paint of his car and apply a new coat, which should be exciting!
