1.) I was most proud of the fact that the students enjoyed  the music I was playing while they cam into the classroom. Students felt that it fit the theme very well, that mad me feel more confident in myself.

2.)

a.)  I think I deserved a P i made time and had a lot to say about my topic.

b.) I felt that my presentation was very informative and is P worthy I made talking time and felt that my activities were enjoyable for the class.

3.) What worked was the music and my 2nd answer. I felt that it was going to be hard to explain certain concept but it felt as if they were easy.

4.) What I would do next time is have less slides on horse power, it did not ruin my presentation in anyway but it would leave more room for other slides.

5.) Now that i have successfully completed the senior course I no longer doubt myself from anything that seems to hard. 9 moths ago i would have never even tried to do this senior presentation. I now feel that i could accomplish my goals like in being a line man or air frame and power plant technician.

    Interpretive
What I gained was experience from the things I read. I have helped my mentor Paul take out the engine out of his car at least 4 times, something new was always learned from doing so.

   Applied
He has a vtech head installed in his car. In order to let the engine handle the extra oil pressure we had to modify the fuel pump equipped with a gage. We also took out many old run down parts and replaced them with new or high performance parts. For example we installed high performance disk breaks and are thinking of installing new break calipers.

Exit interview

1. What is the best way to refurbish a vehicle in order to get its optimal performance? my best answer is "adding modifications can increase a vehicle performance" I like this answer the best because you can do little things to get a cars "optimal performance". But modification is the bulk of it all without modification you would be unable to get dramatic results that modification offers.

2. Research led me to this answer, because during my research checks I found some interesting data that described certain modifications that truly do increase a vehicles performance. For example state d by "pro chargers F.AQ"  a super charger can give you a 35 to 40% increase in horse power which I find very interesting. Learning exactly how it worked was far more interesting the looking at the numbers alone.

3. A problem I faced was how to deal with work and mentorship. Because I work 8:00 to 5:00 I couldn't find time to work with my mentor. We resolved this issue, my mentor would pick me up from work and take me to his house were the Honda Civic was stationed. It was cool because we would work long hours together doing what ever was needed to be done; but also talking about the senior project or interesting facts that came up. Mentor ship never felt like work it just seemed like another day enjoying the hobby with a friend.

4. One of them was data from "Smokey Dynos" a car tuning company, I liked that they put there data online to show how certain modification would affect the car's after installation. From high flowing exhaust system to piggy back ECU'S. Another source is my mentor's Alex and Paul they really done well at showing me the many parts that needed clarification from my research.

April blog post

Earlier this month I had the chance to completely take apart one of the engines laying around, for parts. This time we would not put the engine back together because we are selling its parts. Also because of the fact that a crank shaft actually has to be installed with the type of precision that we are incapable of. It was interesting to remove and a lot heavier than I had ever expected. The cars is finally working though, its reliability we are still unsure of. I will try and post a video to finally see the engine come to life.

Independent component 2

a. I Junior Rico, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.

b. Dyno statistics I found for Pitman's was great they had solid proof that modification did increase engine performance with replacing certain parts. My neighbor Alex was also great, when I talked to him I could tell he was very experienced I learned so many little things also because of the fact he worked for triple A t one point.

c. done

d. My mentor and I continued to work on the car because of its multiple engine problems. It was quite simple of what happened when we looked back at it. My mentor might have bitten of more that he could chew. Because he wanted the car to be compatible with a v-tech, so many things were going wrong. It was not as simple as replacing the top portion of the engine block. A new oil system was installed in order to handle the extra pressure. But when we blew a piston we were sure it was over. We were ready to switch yet another engine block but it seems that the engine is good and running.
This independent component has helped me because it shows what parts have to be replaced in order to have a engine with the best performance. A piston had to be replaced because it was pretty much useless. Also the oil pump was modified in order to handle the extra pressure. it was also interesting to see the components of an engine block. when we took out the piston of one of the old engine we decided to take apart the entire thing, to possibly sell part.

This is a crank shaft from a old engine (right under it) we decided to remove it just so I can see how you remove it and the components of an engine. It a lot heavier than it looks, its probably the second heaviest thing after the engine block itself.

This was the old engine prepped to take out its piston that we needed. It was actually interesting to install on the amount because the crane was occupied. We actually lifted it on the mount, it wasn't to heavy because we already took the top portion off, which is why the pistons are showing.

its supposed to look like oil but antifreeze got mixed with it. this engine was a mess.

As stated many times my mentor and I have had problems with the engine. Every time we turn it on a new problem is reviled. This time a piston was burnt out. Instead of combusting the fuel, like it should, it would leak threw its sides. We have a total of three engines so it was just a matter of swapping the faulty piston and switching it with its replacement. I don't really mined having to take apart the engine multiple times, only because there is always something new to work with.

1. What is the best way to refurbish a vehicle in order to get its optimal performance?

2. Having the right canvas, vehicle, is critical before any refurbishing should take place.

detail 1- Some luxury vehicles like BMW and Lexus are not worth touching because they are to expensive or are already equipped with modification.

Detail 2- Cars like Hondas Toyotas and Subaru's are "project friendly" these cars are easy and cheap to refurbish compared to other vehicles.

detail 3-  Most importantly the vehicle must be able to have it performance "upgradeable" as for luxury vehicles it is best that they stay the way they are and only certified mechanics can work on them to avoid damage.

Choosing the right car in order to increase performance is critical because some cars would be impossible due to the fact that certified mechanics can only work on them; and some cars are to expensive to even start and try to increase there performance because of the price of the regular parts.

Extra blog post (Febuary)

I have never taken the time to introduce my mentor. His name is Paul Munoz a great positive person. He almost feels like a big brother, something I've never really felt  since I am the oldest boy in the house. Fixing and modifying cars is one of the only few things he knows how to do. Hes also an engineer in medical equipment used for hospitals or laboratories (I am not sure of the real name of his title). He is also pretty savvy at fixing computers and anything that has electronic components. What he is holding on his hand is an Axel which he let me put in, it was not an easy task, but as usual we were able to manage.

Its been quite an experience working with my mentor, the components of a car have never been more interesting than ever. The cars engine is pretty much done, it runs but has a few problems with its sensors. Its also has a name believe it or not, "Raden". He still has a few things to add like paint and new interior paint but overall its is coming out well. As you can see it still has its first coat of primer. And my mentor is showing me the way to insert the axel, because there are rings that must stay in place but keep falling out every time you try and attempt to mount it on the side of the engine.

1. What I plan on doing with my independent component 2 is continue working with my mentors car. The last I heard from the progress was that he was finally able to get the engine to run, it leaks, but it runs. It is almost done it needs its final coats of primer and paint. Also it needs heat resistant pain in the interior. My sister is going to buy a Acura Tsk which means I can inherit her Accord, if we run out of things to do on my mentors car, he is willing to help me on mine!

2. I will show pictures and possibly a video( I think it will be fun to) I also want to talk about my mentor and were he comes from he's been great at what he does and I would like for people to know a little about him.

3.His car was in horrible condition the way it was and now that it is almost completely refurbished we can talk about the way we did it and the things we feel are the most important about refurbishing a vehicle. Also if we get to mine it will be preety fun.

4. (got it)

(A) I Junior rico, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.

(b) My mentor Paul Munoz has done great with giving him hands on experience, I feel comfortable working on his car because he does not mined when I make mistakes. Ive messed up a few times like ruined his caliber but he didn't mined, if it was another persons vehicle I would have felt awful.

(c) Yes, and it is located on the right side of my blog

(d) Its been a rough rode with my mentors car because we expected it to be done last year around November, it obvious that were behind schedule. A majority of the time was replacing the new engine he bought, it was interesting to see the transmission sitting on the left side of the engine. It was also tedious work when it came to pugging bag all the hoses and sensors back into the engine. We also did work on the paint job and breaks to.

INTERPRETIVE

I had no idea how much work it took when it comes to refurbishing a car. When he first got it I was excited to get my hands dirty and take it apart which we did for my summer mentor ship hours. For my independent component hours it took us a while to get the new engine, because of money issues. In order to not waste time, and my mentor wanted to keep me busy, we decided to give the car it primer. Sanding down the car's old paint then applying the cars first coat of primer. When this was done it was obvious that the car was going to look GOOD! We had  no intentions of putting the final coats because we want to do that when the cars engine is all done, to prevent any scratching. When we got the engine finally form a company called "MoshiMoshi" we had the task of replacing the messed up engine with a new one. . . . .again. Half way threw the job my mentor noticed he needed more parts for the mortification he wants  to achieve. The parts require a certain air pump with special tools needed for installation. I am not quite sure exactly what else he needs until I go see him again. So the engine is only half way done, until we get the parts and money to finish up what we started. As that was on hold I got to work on the breaks, which I did my first mistake in ruining his threads. It was not bad because the part was going to be replaced for a high performance one either way. Independent component ought to be exciting, Hopefully we can have that car running on its own, because when its done my mentor is going to teach me how to drive it; its a stick shift.

Applied:
This component helped me understand my topic by giving me precious experience on subject I have only read on my research check. For instance I have red a lot about a cars suspension  and all it components it comprised of. I have not only worked on the shocks and spring but also the disk break  and axels. Ive always new and read how a engine works but actually taking apart the engine and seeing all its components like, pistons, camshafts , and exhaust ports was amazing.

This would be my mentor, we took out the old engine to drain its fluids.

When I had the chance to change the breaks, the break caliber is located on the right side of the picture.

Replaced disk break, It is easy to tell were it is located because it is shiny unlike the rest of the cars suspension and break components.

Blog 13 (lesson 2 reflection)

1. One thng I loved about the whole experience was that its n ot difficult to rech 10 minutes of talking time, fluency is a bit harder. Which is something I can work on.

2. a. I would give my self a p- I meet talking time stuttered a bit but overall it was not bad

b. All my information was related to my Eq maybe to the exception of one which was the spark plugs, The thing about them is you cant really see them anyways, my mistake.

3. what worked was the pictures I felt that people were easily able to understand the parts of the car with visuals. If I just named parts of a car with no visuals a good majority of the people whould have no clue what I was talking about.

4. What I would have done was maybe take off spark plugs, I must have been caught up with performance and forgot out about appearance.

5. Something to do with modification, because to refurbish something it means to make better than what it was before, modifying lets you do this.

Senior Project: The holiday

1.
Over break I fixed my mentor and I did an oil change on my sisters car, and found out that the struts in the car have been severely damaged because of the poor job of a mechanic who recently replaced the shocks. This was bad news to my sister, but the good news is that the engine for my mentors Honda civic is going to be bought this Saturday which we will be working on all day.
Blog 10: Senior Project: The Holiday

2.
The most important thing I have learned is, when doing work in a car, the work must be done in with the best quality. If not you risk damaging your vehicle, I know so from the example of my sisters car and the time my mentor and I applied paint in the cars interior; and it started to chip of because of the sun heat.

3.
I would either talk to my mentor or my neighbor Alex. Alex works for triple A, and has a car of his own. He is pretty savvy when it comes to cars, because I've seen him work on them since I was a little boy.
